Then, this weekend, I only saw one or two ads in the paper that looked any good. I went, and saw what I would consider three garage sales. OK stuff, but not my usual shopping list.

Then, my last stop was one of those lucky deals. I pulled up to an older house with just tables of stuff. I glanced at the first table and saw an old Finance board game (which is, by the way, a total rip off of Monopoly!)... I asked how much and a perky little girl called her sweet (great) gramma over. Twenty five cents. Heaven!

So I started picking up anything interesting. Soon I found that she was a retired teacher, who worked during the 70s and apparently picked up any of the 50s era textbooks, library books and posters that were about to be thrown away. Every item costs -- twenty five cents!

My biggest score was a plastic bag full of posters, most were self made laminations of photos out of magazines. But the prize was a huge school poster with a "city" on one side and a "farm" on the other. It is magnificent. Cost -- twenty five cents!

I got lots of golden books, some cool old library books, teacher edition text books from the 50s. The whole box full was five bucks, and I tipped her cute perky granddaughter a dollar for telling me over and over that I was their best customer ever!

Back in the Saddle Again

Went to one Estate Sale three times.
Went to one that was the pits.
Went to one en route to the pits-one, and got 8 items for $6.... my kind of sale!

Find of the week. This was in the pile of items I got for less than $1 each... this game can go quite high on eBay... yippee! I was afraid I'd never hit a home run again.

Another cheapie, I thought of David when I got this. He did know about this old British series, and the picture sort of looks like him!

Found a bunch of vintage paper dolls. I just wrote an ad for the Annette as a Mouseketeer set, but then pulled the ad off ebay. I want to use the clothes for an art project. It will be called "fancy/not fancy"

View Masters and Little Golden Books

1940s View Master. This is the "B" model which had slight improvements over the original "A" version. The best part of this one was the original box, instructions and list of available reels that came with it. Cost: $25

I think this was a model "K" version. From the 60s, it came with a cool demo reel.

And I got LOTS of reels!

And I got this Little Golden Book, staring our very own.... Joey Genet! I look for Little Golden Books all the time now. (of course)

AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!

UGH. I know you have to lose a few, but I had my worst Estate Sale mistake tonight.

First off, I got a call last night, around 10pm from a lady who runs sales. She invited me to a sneak preview of a sale set to start Friday. So I went tonight and quickly found that the house didn't have much for me. It was an amazing house, however...

Anyway, in one room I found some kids' books, including lots of Little Golden Books. I am starting to study those, and remembered reading that if they didn't have the covers they were basically junk. So I look through and grab ones that seem older.

Besides the book, I didn't find much so I headed to the checkout. I overheard a lady checking out who had all the cool stuff in the house. She must have gotten there a few minutes before me and she liked funky town as much as me, great stuff in her box. I overheard her ask about the prices of Little Golden Books, and after that, I assumed she had picked hers out before me and found all the good ones.

So I offloaded the ones with the bad spines. And I carried four books and an old Imperial Pure Cane Sugar Cookbook to checkout. While she was packing to leave, I made the ill fated decision to put down one of the Golden Books with an iffy spine. She snapped it up.

Probably because she knew it was the Holy Grail of Little Golden Books, Little Black Sambo. Too bad I really needed to save that dollar it would have cost me, because they sell for between $50 and $125 on eBay.

No biggie..... AAAARRRRGGGHHH...

by the way, the winners I kept were worth about a buck each. Woo hoo.
